Second-Hand Cat, First-Rate Pet

Second-Hand Cat, First-Rate Pet

When Jack and Debi Roney of Vienna, Va., decided to get a kitten, they set their sights on a lively, energetic animal. But that was before they met Minnalouche, a calico that a local humane society fostered. "She seemed to need a lot of love and warmth," Debi recalls. "When I picked her up, she snuggled under my sweater. She seemed to really need me."

Feeling needed appealed to the Roneys then, just as it has in the 13 years since they adopted Minnalouche. Steve Aiken, an animal behaviorist from Wichita, Kan., understands why. Adopting from a shelter, humane society or rescue group "means helping a cat who's already there and needs the love of an owner," he says.

The Joy of Adopting
When you adopt a cat, there's the obvious benefit that you're providing a home for the animal. But there are more advantages, including:

  • Socialization Many shelter cats were previously owned and socialized, so they're more likely than strays to make a happy adjustment to your household.
  • Expert advice The staffs at animal shelters can help take the guesswork out of choosing the right pet. Since they interact daily with the kittens and cats, they have a feel for their moods.
  • Lower costs Adopting a cat is less expensive than buying one. You can save money in medical costs too. Many cats have already been spayed or neutered and if they haven't, shelters usually reimburse a portion of the cost when a spay or neuter is requested.

Despite the advantages, shelter animals can have higher stress levels. "Shelter cats have been in another home, snatched up and brought to a shelter with the strange sights and sounds of many other animals, and then snatched up again and brought to their new home," says Aiken.

But that's no reason to look down upon the animal. "The idea that a shelter cat has something wrong with it is outdated," says Nancy Peterson, Human-Animal Bond Specialist for The Humane Society of the United States in Washington, D.C. "It's more likely something was wrong with the previous owners -- maybe they weren't as committed to the animal as they should have been."

Making the Match
To make the adoption work, here's what experts suggest:

  • Do your research Find out as much information as possible about adoptions. Check out the Humane Society of the United States' Web site and local humane societies and animal shelters.
  • Ask questions Find out everything you can about the kitten or cat. Is it good around kids? Has it ever lived in a multi-cat or multi-pet household? How does it get along with the other animals at the shelter?
  • Take your time Peterson compares the adoption process to dating. "You just don't meet your soul mate the first time you go out with someone," she says. "You shouldn't have those expectations when picking a cat either. It's worth the wait to find exactly the right animal."
  • Be realistic Talk to cat owners and read books so you know what to expect. "If you've never had a cat before, some of their habits, such as shedding or scratching, may surprise you or may annoy you," Peterson says.
  • Seek help Both you and your pet need time to get to know each other. If you have problems adjusting, call the shelter for advice. "The nice thing about adoptions is that the staff is committed to a lifetime match," Peterson says.

Kittens

I am trying to find help for 7 kittens (now about 4 mos. old) they were born under our business porch, and the owner has asked us to get rid of them. Today they sent the Humane Society w/ a trap, and I have to find some help in trapping to fix them and find homes for them, not euthanize them. Can you help?

Home for Elderly Cat

I'm writing to find out if you have any referrals, contacts or resources about someone who is willing to adopt an elderly cat with some health problems. The cat is stilly spry, sweet and loving with shiny eyes and coat - lots of life left in him - but is having digestive problems and the current owner cannot afford to pay for the testing and treatment. The owners have had this cat over 16 years and would love to see if someone could be able to adopt it and provide the treatment it needs. Please send ANY leads to my email. With sincere thanks, Julia

heartbroken

I have 8 indoor cats..my 2 cats had kittens. They are all spayed/neutered. I didn't have the heart to give them away 4 yrs ago when they were born. I was afraid they wouldn't be properly taken care of, as I grew very attached. My grandaughter who lives with me has become allergic!! I have called all the local rescue places and no kill shelters they don't even have room for one! I am so very sad I love them all so very much. They are all so sweet and loving. They never scratched, bit or had any accidents. And they just love my granddaughter, but she can't be aroung them. Can someone please advise me what to do, i am running out of time

feral cats

I do not how to contact the proper organization that would trap, take care and put up for adoption six cats (possibly seven months old) in my neighborhood. They have been fed since June or July by a neighboor; I pass by her house each morning to distribute food that I place in different locations around her house. Thank you

lonely cat needs warm lap

My mother has become very ill and can no longer live alone. Her very sweet kitty now must be rehomed. We are reaching out everwhere to find him a wonderful family. He is about 8 years old and is feline leukemia positive so he needs to be an only cat or in a home with other positive cats. He is a beautiful smoke gray with long fur. We keep him shaved down as the fur was too much for my mom to keep up. He is so sweet and loves to be petted and sit next to you on the sofa. Please get in touch if you are interested in this sweet sweet boy- jchaet@charter.net He is in western NC.

To Heartroken

There is medication for allergy symptoms that is easily obtained by prescription from your doctor, or over the counter. A person's allergy to cats no longer means that his or her beloved companions must be displaced.

female cat to a good home

I have a male cat at home for about 10 years, I recently had to take a female cat in from the animal hospital (where I work) because the lady that took care of the cat died, I don't want to bring her to a humane society because I am afraid they will put the cat to sleep if no one adopts her. She is really an affectioned cat and is easy to love and take care of she is about 4 years old I have all of her records for rabie shots and different things spayed etc. Where can I find a good home for this cat? Thank you Shirley

to Lyle bathroom issues

I read about your kitty having bathroom issues. I hope you feed your kitty a decent food like science diet or better. Also your kitty may need to have its stool checked for worms. If they don't find any, your kitty will definately have to be checked for more serious issues. Beware of cheaper foods, you will pay more in the long run.

RE: SHELTER CATS, AND ALL CATS

It is NOT true that you should 'take your time' like with a prospective boyfriend/girlfriend, when looking to adopt. If you are serious about adopting and you are willing to make a lifetime commitment of love to a cat, you should be able to love ANY cat and will bond "for better or for worse". "Looky-lous" are the bane of shelters and rescues the world over, and indicate that the people want some kind of entertainment or shopping experience rather than to adopt and care for a lifetime for a sentient living being! Please, people -- if you want to window-shop, go to the mall and look at inanimate objects. And if "cute" and "no-problem" is all you want, buy a plush animal. But for those who ARE loving, personally responsible, and ready, able and willing to have the best loving and unconditionally loyal relationship ever, ADOPT A CAT (or CATS)!!!

A few months ago a stray cat showed up at our home. It is a sweet tiger stripped female cat. I am told she is about a year old. This is a friendly cat who greets us at the car when we come home. We have tried to bring her inside, but she is afraid of our Beagle. The neighbor feeds her and she sleeps in a box on our front porch. She would make a great pet for anyone. Hello, I just don't understand this. How could a page dedicated to adopting and helping animals while they advertise IAMS, the very entity that kills cats and dogs in useless animal experimentations? Check this site out: #IF($EnableExternalLinks)h#COMMENT#ENDCOMMENTttp://iamscruelty.o#COMMENT#ENDCOMMENTrg/#ELSEIams Cruelty#ENDIF When I contacted IAMS, they lied and denied any involvement on animal experimentation, but you will see on this website, there is undercover video exposing them. IAMS is inhumane company and does and support animal testing and their banner should not be posted in sites which are calling to help animals.

THREE CATS

A stray black female kitten showed up at our house about 15 months ago. It was starving so we fed it and kept it. She's very sweet and got along with our dog just fine. I had never owned a cat and had no idea that a four or five month old kitten could get pregnant, but she did. She had six kittens, but one died. We placed three in homes and kept a brother and sister pair that we just fell in love with. So we have three now: a mom, a daughter, and a son. They're all healthy, spayed/nuetered,feline leukemia free, up to date on shots, kid friendly, sweet, sweet, sweet! They live outside, but use a litter box in the garage. We have four sons that enjoy them, but our youngest is 4 and horribly allergic. He's been sick ever since we got them. I also have a nephew that cannot visit my house because he has had a heart transplant. So, sadly we have to find homes for them. I wish they could stay together, but I would consider splitting them - I guess. Anyway, we are in Somerset, Ky. Please e-mail me at(ladymayne@hotmail.com)if you can help out. We're very sad to see them go, but feel it's what we have to do.

stray cat

I will try and keep it short. My mother lives in a condominium complex in Ft.Lauderdale where a cat has been living outside for over 10 years. Apparently, the cat belonged to a unit owner that had passed away and unfortunately, the cat was let outside to survive on it's own. She will not allow anyone to hold her, she will rub against you and my mother feeds her everyday. A few months ago a new condo. president was voted in and he is doing everything in his power to trap the cat. He hired a trapping company but the security and some residents would break the traps so they removed it. Do you know of anyone in the Ft.Lauderdale area that can trap this beautiful cat and save its life.

Cat needs Rescue!

There is a beautiful little girl - black longhair and green eyes - who has been living around my office building and parking lot for the past few weeks. She is beautiful! It seems she's been abandoned! I've a big cat lover and have a furbaby of my own, but I'm in an apartment and can't afford another cat. I cry each night when I come out to my vehicle and see her there in the parking lot. A coworker feeds her twice a week. She deserves a loving, warm home. And it's been freezing the past couple of nights. Please someone come rescue her! Please call me for the location!

Himalayan Cat

I lost my 14 year old Himalayan Flame Point Male cat Simba to Cancer Dec 26th. My heart is broken. I have a wonderful 5 yr old Black cat Luigi that I love and a 1 1/2 yr old half-Siamese girl cat. Simba was the King. He was so special to me. He was my friend and closest companion. I tried to make myself and Luigi and Lola feel better by purchasing a Male Flame Point Kitten. I was not good. I am 14 yrs older. The kitten was darling but extremely hyperactive and my two other cats did not like him and they hissed and growled. Luckily the breeder was understanding and took him back and refunded my money. What I think would be much better for all is a grown Himalayan cat, male Flame Point if possible, but a more mature cat with a calm nature. Please email me if you know of anyone in Massachusetts who has a cat to fill our aching hearts. Jan

Need to place cat in good home

I had a baby recently & it appears he is allergic to our cat. The cat is my daughter's. We have had him since he was a kitten. He will be 10 yrs. old in Aug. We really don't want to get rid of him, but have to. He is neutered & declawed. His brother died last year so he would do well in a home with another cat, w/out any pets, or with small dogs. He likes children. He does not like babies or big dogs (we have a German Shephard). Thanks to "Jennifer" for giving some good advice here. I will try to post the info. here. Someone told me there is also an organization that takes cats in their homes until a home is found & will not put them to sleep. Anyone know of this. I am in the Phila., PA suburbs so that is where I am looking for this. Thanks!

cats and neighbors

My Nieghbor is trapping cats and dumping them I witnessed this today. They say it is because there are cats visiting his yard there are several cats in our neighborhood. I too have taken in stray cats and they have become lovable pets and for some reason they (the cats) must have put out the word...come to the Polo's!! I now have a few too many. I have most of them inside. Though several are outdoors. I need to find homes for 3 kittens and 2 adults. They have been indoors since the kittens have been born. I would love to keep them but I do not have the space or the funds to get them all spayed/nuetered. What should I do? I do not want any problems and I have to live here. Though I love my animals and do not want to send them to the animal shelter to be put down. Any suggestions? I live in montebello, california.

Feral Cats

To the one who posted about Feral Cats.. There is an inactive group The Boston Area Friends of Out Door Cats and I have just posted a new meetup for cat lovers to being in Watertown in July and hope that some people who care for ferals will join. I had a group ,but closed it down and several of members in that group cared for ferals.

cats to be euthanized because of angry man

My daughter is currently in the beginning stages of divorce. The problem is, her husband, out of spite, is going to have her 2 cats killed! I need help in finding them a good home. They have a couple managable problems. One goes to the bathrm in the tub the other has a kidney problem that does not handicap her. He just wants to hurt my daughter. I would take them myself, but I have 3 cats now. One is in failing health, she's 21 trs old. the other 2 r fine, but, i don't know how they would handle 2 new comers. Please help me find a home for them both. The clinic where they r will not keep them over the weekend. They will die!

Please help me save my cats in the next two weeks.... Please

Due to Struggling, I am being evicted from my apt and can only take one of my cats to my daughter's apartment.. Due to her having a dog... I have tried everywhere I can... And since they are older cats... I am so worried about them.. I have prayed and cried over them.... They are great cats... And loveable and spoiled.... 8years old.. Two are 6 years old.. And one is three years old... Also living in my apt, on two separate occasions I have rescued two cats that people just went off and abandoned....I just do not know how anyone can do that to animals... They do not deserve it... One is about 6 months old and is a girl... The other one is bigger but not sure how old he is..... But both are so loving and kind and would warm anyones heart.... I only have two weeks before I have to move out of my apt...... Please can you help or know some one that can foster till I can get back on my feet... I will also each week bring food and litter and even help clean and take care of them.... Here are there Pictures... The first four cats are mine.... That I have had so long. And the last two are the ones that I found... Thank you for listening and praying and for trying to help me in advance..... Wanda D. McAuliffe 678-752-2046... McDonough, Ga. willing to help with food a litter each week....

Advice

My goodness. If you are looking for a cat or kitten, please look on Petfinder or contact your local shelter or rescue. If you are looking to adopt out a cat or kitten, or need help with spaying/neutering, contact your local shelter or humane society. They will have resources for low cost surgeries. Local vets may be willing to work with you, especially in a trap-neuter-return situation. The Bestfriends organization online also has re-homing resources. Anyone looking to adopt should read all of these posts. Consider your living situation before you adopt an animal that could be a part of your life for 10-20 years. If you don't have a steady job, if you rent, if you think you might move at some point, if you are thinking about having a baby, if you would give up your animal because your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife didn't like it or was allergic, WAIT. Rescues are overwhelmed because people don't bother to spay or neuter their pets, get tired of them, suddenly become allergic to them, or decide to move to a place where pets aren't allowed. Also, this is kitten season, and with global warming, it lasts longer every year. Sometimes re-homing pets is unavoidable (i.e. a death in the family), but MANY of these situations can be avoided. Think and be responsible.

I NEED TEMPORARY BOARDING FOR MY TWO YOUNG SIAMESE CATS

Hi! I'm looking for a cat lover who can provide a safe, secure, temporary (not more than 30 days, and most likely only two weeks) environment where I could board my two young Siamese cats at low cost. My family would provide all food, litter box and litter, and daily care for the cats. I just moved and need to make arrangements with my new landlord for a pet deposit so the cats can move in with me. They are young, healthy, have all their shots and current health certificates. Both cats are well-behaved, indoor-only cats. Thanks! Teresa

abandoned cats

We live on Table Rock Lake in Lampe Missouri. The property across the street from us, a dock builder, has been forclosed on and all of the buildings, etc. are in the process of being destroyed by the new owners. Unfortunately the previous owners were cat and dog horders. The dogs have been taken care of,k but we still have cats that need homes. These cats are beautiful, greys, white/gold, are the predominate colors. I don't know how many are actually on the property, but we have a count of six at the moment. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cats so cannot take any of them in. However, we are trying to feed some of them. They are all very sweet, and as I said before, are some of the prettiest cats I have ever seen - mostley still kittens. Do you have any suggestions about how we should proceed. Since none of them have been nutered, I'm certain they will continue to reproduce. Thank you, Pam Hughes

2 Male Cats Available

Hi! I have 2 adult male cats that I am in desparate need to surrender to a loving home. One of the cats is about 9 years old (Toby) and he's black and white. The other is about 5 years old (Spooky) and he's black with a few hints of white here or there. They have both been neutered and both have their claws. I need to get them to someone that can provide a loving home for them. They have clawed up our carpets and destroyed some of the furniture and I've been asked to get them out or else. They both probably need to be outside but our development is too crowded to let them out. I don't want to send them to an untimely death at the local SPCA but I'm running out of time. If you can take them into your home please send me an email at wazup3d@comcast.net. I'm on the east coast in Delaware. Thanks!

This Kitten Needs A Home !!!!

My daughter found a little kitten, it was so small and skinny, and had so much dirt in his ears, he could not hear.he had a cut on his head, and looked very sad. We brought it home to save him, and nurse him back to health. We can NOT keep this kitten, due to allergies, and a mean dog. I have it in my daughters room, but thats no place for a playful kitten to live. I think the kitten is 6 weeks old, He is pottie trained ( litter box ). very smart, playful and loves his tummy to be rubbed. I would love to find this kitten a HOME, he deserves it. Please if you could care for this little cutie, it would make us very happy. he is a black, short hair , and full of energy. I live in a small town in nevada but I am willing to travel to salt lake city, utah. please if you can share your heart and time. thanks Tamie Phiz. email - triplemom93@yahoo.com

finding homes for cats

I live in the country, about 16 miles from Somerset Ky. and about 16 miles from London Ky. The problem is we have four or five cats that we have been feeding, that are wild cats that live in the woods by our house. Most of them are females and they are having babies. We now have 2 kittens that are about 4 months old. We was able to catch them and they are tame. A couple of days ago my daughter found another little kitten in our flower bed crying its little heart out. She brought it in and the next morning we took it out side to see which cat it belonged to and the cat that claimed it we knew wasn't its mother. But she also had kittens and she went and got her baby and brought it to us. It is only about a week old. We searched and searched and we found one more. So now we have a kitten about 4 weeks old and 2 about 1 week old and we need to find homes for these little guys. I can't afford to keep them. I live on a fixed income and I can't afford to get all of these cats fixed. I really can't afford to feed them but I just can't stand to see any animal hungry. If it didn't cost so much to have animals fixed there wouldn't be so many animals having babies all the time. If any one can help me and take some of these cats I would be most grateful. This is my email address: joy3wel@yahoo.com thanks for reading this.

Feral Cats

I have been feeding stray and feral cats that have been left at my home for about two years. I am trying to find a place that will help me trap them to find them homes or fix them. So I can keep the population down. There are getting to be to many of them. I live in Ocala, Florida. The only place I have found will euthanized them. They cannot bring a trap for 5 months. I was told at this time it is against the law to feed them and if I do I will be fined $200.00 per cat. Any suggestion? Denise

find a new home for your cat, adopt a cat

Petfinder has a place to post for animals in need of a new home. You can also contact a rescue group that may be able to help with re-homing. If your looking for a certain type of cat many shelters can put you on a wait list and contact you when the breed comes in. If you have allergies, don't believe that there's a certain breed that won't affect you, allergies vary between people as do allergens produced by the individual animals. You have to spend time with the animal to see how they affect you. Don't take meds before unless you plan to take them all the time. Allergies of the owner are a common reason for pets to end up in shelters.

Advice about Feral Cats

If you are feeding stray cats, go to Alley Cat Allies web site at www.alleycat.org to get advice about what to do and how to care for them. Many stray cats are feral (wild) and they will never make good pets. They want to live outdoors - they do not want to live in a house with people. Feral cats should usually not be relocated unless their lives are in danger. They only know the area where they live - where to get food, where to hide, where the dangers are - and they will often end up dead if relocated. Trap them to get them neutered, put them back where they live, and feed them every day. If you find a stray cat that can be touched, that cat can become a pet again. Please feed the cat daily and take it inside if at all possible while you look for a new home. You can place an ad on Petfinder online, post ads at local vets offices, send out an email at work. Beware of those who would adopt a cat to use for dog fights or resell to laboratories. Remember, if you adopted a cat or found a cat, that cat's life is your responsibility until you find it a new, loving home. If it is feral you must feed it for the rest of its life, or find someone else who will. For the love of God, please don't just turn away.

Cat with Litter Box Problems

Behavior problems, even litter box problems are no excuse for abandoning the cat that you adopted and promised to take care of for the rest of its life. Maybe you don't clean the box often enough. Maybe your cat doesn't like the kind of litter you are using. You say you have ruled out medical problems but that is very often at the root of a litter box problem, so go back to your vet and ask him or her to help you figure out why your cat will not use the litterbox. But do not try to find another home for your cat. We don't give away our children if they have behavioral problems. You have a responsibility to this cat to provide a loving home for the rest of its life.

cats returned for not using litterbox

I have had more litter box stubborn cats. Sasha had to have one in the bedroom by the chest she slept on. Homeo would not go in if the butt of the box was against the wall. It had to be turned side ways with nothing close to the box. Then Fuzzy would not get in the box at all. I put out 8 litter boxes. Finally I had a rotiseirre chicken box and put super cheap litter thats waht she liked. The 8 litter boxes worked in my tiny house to.

Mother cat and 3 kittens

I was trying to found out if there is anyone that would be able to catch 1 young female mother cat of three kittens, I do feed her, but would like just to try and have her spayed so she does not have another litter. They all live outside. Please let me know. I would like to try to have this done before the cold weather sets in again. Thankyou so much for looking into this matter. I wish I could take all in, but I am on a fixed income and already have 2 cats that I adopted from the animal shelter.

Two male stray cats that need homes

Two male cats were dropped of a couple months ago around my home. There is a pittbull next door and I'm afraid it will harm them. I cannot keep them because I rent and am not allowed to have them. The shelters are refusing them because they have no room. One is a medium hair gray tiger pattern the other is a silver/grey color. Thanks!

Free Kitty to a GOOD home!!

Hobo is a 4 month old male orange tabby kitten. we found him when he was 5 weeks old, under a small walkway bridge, he had no siblings or mother. At first he was very shy and scared, but after giving him time to adjust at his own pace, he has become a very loving and affectionate kitty. When you first take him he will probably be very shy again for a short period, but we know if you give him time and love he will warm up the way he did to us. we really need to find a home for this kitty, because we already have 3 cats of our own. (Hobo gets along with them very well.) If you take Hobo, you need to just be patient and he will come around. He is a really good cat. Seriously Seeking an home for my Cats

I have two male kitties (Mac and Troy) but I'm losing my house and I need to find a home for them ASAP. It is breaking my heart because I would rather put them up in a kennel but due to a devestating illness I am no longer bringing in an income. Is there any place that will hold cats until the owners can get on their feet?

To Debbie who's wanting to frind a good home for her cat.

Please don't give up hope for your sweet pet. We had a diabeted cat for 6 1/2 years and owe his extended life to the web site felinediabetic (dot com). If you can find a glucose monitor meter and test strips, it's very easy to keep a diabetic cat. Checking the blood glucose level can become a part of a twice daily intimate bonding experience. I also have a full schedule and full time job, but it only takes a few minutes each day to keep your pet healthjy. ~ Please check out the website before you decide to find another home for your cat.

kiddy-malidy

i have a situation with a fairly feral cat. she is 6 years old but with all our other cats she just hides in the cellar. she beats up on the two younger cats, and then the older male will attack her. its becoming a vicious circle. i would love to find kiddy-malidy a home where she is an only cat and she can maybe overcome her fears and maybe get the attention she so much deserves. i love her so much and she loves me but only when there is no one else nearby. is there anyone that could possibly help me with this. it would be greatly appreciated. she is a fixed female in very good health and she is a stocky and playful (when alone one on one)kitty and she deserves more than what i can presently give her right now.

Lost cat needs medical attention

HELP! I already own (or they found me) three cats and now a fourth has shown up, beautiful, but with blood red eyes and appears blind. I have done alittle research on the condition and it can be medicaly treated. I am on social security and the three that I have resuced are financially strapping me as it is. Please, someone humane help here. They say the cause could be a simple as allergies, to an immune system problem or herpes virus. Does anyone know of any pet health care provider that may get involved here? So many sad stories, so sad that cats have to endure the hardsips of a recession too and so many without homes.

Cat For Adoption-Hudson Valley, NY

I was very impressed by your website and have a cat I would like to surrender. She is a 5-6 year old healthy female cat. She is spayed and has had vaccinations and is exclusively an indoor cat. I would like to find a good home for her as I can no longer keep her due to my new living situation. My cat Sierra is a very pretty Calico cat with distinct markings. She is very clean and playful cat, however she takes time to warm up to new people. She has been my constant companion with very little interaction with other people. Please let me know if you have any openings, as I would like to see her have a happy and healthy life. Joe

COP OUT

I really think all these people who says they have allergic reations to cats have a cop out either they got something they decided they don't want or just tired of it and don't want it any more....My husbands mother for years said my husband was highy allergic to cats....guess what mom we have 7 cats for 6 yearsw and your son is allergic to trees and grass. My house is cleaned with bleach water from top to bottom every three months and if you live in a wood home you would find out your more allergic to your mold from your own home then cats......try and clean with bleach water on your trims on the floors and walls and everything else every three months and you might just find out about your allergies there are a few who are truly allergic but not as many as I see and hear about. Further your knowledge before you purchase or get something these poor animals just go from home to home from your allergies. It would be common sense to find out if your allergic to something before you bring it into your home....

I can be reached Mon - Fri 10 til 1 at (941) 475-0636 This is kitten season and everyday we get calls about a new litter of kittens. cop out

in response to Ruthann: you should only speak if you know everyone's situationa. I have grown up with cats my entire life and a few years ago had a medical procedure that changed everything for me. I can not longer enter my own Mother's house without taking an alergy pill because of her two cats. It has nothing to do with the grass either. She moved from one state to another and the same reaction. I have two cats also, but they do not bother as much but I still have the problem. It is true people use that as an excuse but sometimes there comes a time when the cats and family have to be matched with someone else and maybe it is better for the cats. Before you do slamming strangers do your homework.

cop out

People have different health. And allergic reations can to be from different things but not from cats. People with allergic ractions should make tastes in the medical centre-on what they have more allergic reactions and they need to keep all clean in their house, and health life is important for them becouse they need stronger imunitet Most people with allergic reactions can to live with pets, cats and dogs.

In desperate need to adopt our two cats!!!!

My wife & myself along with our two kids moved into a Lomita home last summer. The old management allowed us to have our cats. The home owner is now wanting to put this beautiful home on the market. So the new management team came in to do a walk through & saw we had cats and notified us we needed to move or "get rid" of our cats!!!! Now my wife is on bed rest....she'd pregnant & due with twins in August and we must find a good home for our cats Ruby and Roxy. Ruby is a mild tempered almost calico girl cat & Roxy is a black and white full of energy cat. Both were the runts of their respective litters two yrs old....but both are loving adorable smaller cats!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Disaster!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are in Danger! We are killing and caging all our Cats, a bad idea! I use to see a lot of cats out here and it was good. Not many mice or rats, now there are no cats around thanks to the Humane Society and my home and field is over run with mice and rats. They are chewing into my home, destroying it. It is hard enough in this day and time to make ends meet let alone trying to fight to have to do all the repairs because of rats and mice! We got into trouble once before because of getting rid of our cats, Remember the plague!!!!!! We are heading for another Disaster!!!!!!!!!! I do believe in spaying and neutering but they take all cats. The vets clip an ear when they have bin spayed, so they should let them go, not put them in a cage with other sick, wild cats like they did one of mine. He got sick and it cost me a lot to get him well again. Cats have a purpuse in this world and we are not letting them do their jobs. We are heading for trouble. God help us we need to change our way of thinking or we are going to do so much damage we won't be able to stop it. LET OUR CATS RUN FREE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stray cats

I kinda understand the thought above me with the cats purpose, kinda. there are other things you can do about rats and mice. a neighbor of mine had some cats and one ended up at my house and my son fell in love with it so we fed it outside and now another neighbor died and his cat showed up here. the first one seems to be sick or just hurt real bad. tomcat and is always fighting and we live in a rural area and i think he would be a perfect cat inside someones home. i am always picking ticks off of him and he has big sores now and is losing weight. i cant afford to take him to the vet and no shelter will take him so if anyone has any suggestions on what to do i would appreciate it. i hope someone can take him for me and take care of him. there are too many stray cats and dogs out here.

Sweet Beautiful Kittens

A stray cat (not much older than a kitten) wondered up at my boyfriends house. I tried to find out who the cat belonged to, but nobody would claim the cat. So at first I didn't feed her thinking that she would go back home, but it quickly dawned on me that somebody must have put her out here. So I started feeding and taking care of the cat (my boyfriend was not happy about that at all). Then the cat had kittens - we found homes for all but two. We were told that these 2 were males, but to our surprise they had kittens too. Now we have a stray female (white with yellow and black spots), 2 older kittens (one almost tortise shell and one looks like Sylvester), and 7 kittens (himalian lookin, yellow fluffy, black fluffy (runt), black/white, white with yellow &black spots (also runt size and the sweetest of them all), white with yellow spots, and mostly black/orange calico). My boyfriend who doesn't like cats says they have to go and is going to take them to a shelter (of course they will get killed). Please somebody help me find homes for these cats. They are all very loveable, sweet, and playfull. They are all outside cats.

Lovable Kittens and 1 Sweet Adult Male

I have 3 adorable kittens and 1 male cat that I desperately need to find homes for. They were left in a vacant duplex next to me and I have been taking care of them and making sure that they were healthy before I tried to find a home for them. The kittens are so lovable but I can not keep any as I already have 2 cats of my own. But they are very healthy and need someone to love them and give them a good home. The male cat has been abused, but is very loving. He loves to sleep with my kids so I know he would be great for anyone with children. The problem is his tale has been broken by a group of kids who thought it would be funny to cover his tale with grease tie a string around it and hang him upside down. I was so heartbroken over how cruel people can be. I would love to keep him myself as we are becoming attached to him but my landlord says they all have to go and I dont have much time. I am hoping that someone can help me. At the time I am keeping all of them in my house so that nothing else happens to these poor babies. I am affraid to take them to the shelter as they may be put down. These cats are way to lovable and playful for that to happen. Please help!!!!

help feeding

a friend of mine feeds approx 140-150 stray cats in our area. A Close guess would say 85 % of these strays are spayed or neutered at Her or because of her. Is there somewhere where we can get some help with the Food Bill. She works cleaning houses and 99.5% of her money goes to catfood. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance KAP

Need and Want kittens!!

i live on a farm and i have had lots of cats my whole life. This year we have lost 8 cats to coyotes. We had one more cat left so he sleep inside and pretty much lived inside. One evening I let him outside just to play outside for a little bit. He was outside for about a half hour, then when I called for him he never came. The next day I found him dead in the field. So my parents and I are looking for kittens. I never not have any cats or kittens around. This has been a really sad year so kittens would just make it al better! If you or someone you know lives near Decatur, IL please email me!!

Searching for 2 kittens littermates

I have two female cats that are sisters & littermates, they are old!I am afraid when one passes on the other will die of lonliness/broken heart missing her sister! Before that happens I would like to aquire two or three little 6-7 week old healthy female kittens that are sisters/littermates to grow up with my two so that when the inevitable happens the other will still have companions!

There are 4 stray cats in my backyard. I have been feeding them and i really can't aford to do it anymore, my husband & I are both unemployed and have a cat of our own. my ferals

I've been taking good care of three ferals who live under my shed. My husband also built houses for them following directions shown on computer. The cats are healthy-looking with beautiful shiny fur. They are mother, father and son. I captured the mother and son and had them neutered/spayed. The father looks well on in years which is why I decided not to pu thim through the ordeal. Now, because of certain circumstances, it will soon be impossible for me to continue caring for these wonderful creatures. I'm told that prospectve home-buyers will not want to buy a house if they see ferals hanging around. I will be going to NYC. HELP. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THESE FERALS WHO HAVE DEPENDED ON ME FOR 5 YEARS?????

Ferile cats

I live on an old dairy farm and have had many strays dropped off on my property. I feed them and take care of them to the best of my ability but cannot afford to have any of the cats fixed. Now they are starting to multiply. I have tried free kitten signs and my kids do their best to train the kittens but unfortunately this is a huge problem in the country and just about every house has free kittens to find homes for. Is there any agency at all that can help me things are getting way out of control. I live in northwest Ohio

(2) Male Cats for Adoption

I have adopted (7) feral from two litters cats over the past 3 years. One litter of three stays inside, the other litter is outside.....and the two groups do not mix well. Two of the inside males have become very competitive and territorial and are spraying quite a bit. I live on a very busy street and can't put them outside. They are beautiful 2year old tabbies.....one is gray and white, the other golden brown......and very affectionate. They just need to be in single pet homes. I live on the coast of North Carolina and have searched local rescue group for an answer.....just not getting much response. I really need help with this. I am at my wits end.

2 cats need temp shelter

I have two indoor housecats that are now outdoors in cold New England weather. I have permanent housing for them as of Nov 1st. Would anyone be able to care for them for two weeks. I am worried that they cannot survive the cold outdoors (especially at night) until I can move them to a loving indoor housing arrangement. Can declawed indoor cats who love extremely hot weather survive nights of 20 to 30 degrees?
